'Blew me away: James Maddison shocked by something he's witnessed as a Tottenham player this season

Tottenham’s home campaign came to an end yesterday for the season as the narrowly beat Burnley to send them down to the Championship.

Goals from defensive duo Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven ensured Tottenham finished on a high and left themselves still within a chance of nabbing fourth.

Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge has been a success in many ways.

His style of football has been what most Tottenham fans have wanted to see for some time and finishing in the top five is going to be a decent achievement for the Aussie.

Further, a lot of his new signings have worked out well at the first time of asking. The likes of Micky van de Ven, Vicario in goal, and James Maddison in midfield have all done the business.

And speaking of Maddison, the England man has admitted he’s been blown away by something at Totteham this season.

James Maddison says Tottenham’s support has blown him away this season

Maddison, a £40m signing from Leicester City, has been one of Postecoglou’s key signings and he was immediately made part of the leadership group at the club.

On the pitch, Maddison has also delivered for Spurs. Four goals and eight assists in the league is not bad going given he has been injured as well.

However, taking to X after yesterday’s game, Maddison was quick to shower praise on the Spurs fans for the role they’ve played this season.

Indeed, Maddison has said that the support he’s had has ‘blew me away’.

Maddison can be even better

While the baseline stats in the attacking third are ok and there’s a feeling among those at Spurs that they’re a better team when he plays, Maddison can and will want to do even more,

The goals tally of four is something he’ll want to work on and in fairness, Postecoglou is right to ask more from his number ten when it comes to that.

Maddison, as we’ve seen over the years, seems to get better by the year and after one season with a huge club like Spurs, next year we should see further improvements.

Tottenham fans, then, will be looking forward to an even better James Maddison next term.
