The advance of Russian forces in the Kharkiv region is a perilous moment. Partners must do everything possible to assist Ukraine, states the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, David Cameron.
Cameron deemed Russia's breakthrough into the border regions of the Kharkiv region "an extremely dangerous moment."
"This only underlines that this is an unjustified, illegal invasion by Putin into an independent, sovereign country. And he's now, as it were, invaded it again from the north of Kharkiv. We must do everything we can to help the Ukrainians," the minister said.
Therefore, the Foreign Secretary emphasized the importance of providing Ukraine with a £3 billion aid package annually.
Cameron also believes that US assistance could change the situation on the battlefield. In his opinion, Washington should have approved the extension of aid to Ukraine sooner, as the country "was suffering in the land war."
"Now the first to say here is a package that isn't just this year, it's next year and the year after. But the American money will make a difference - so we've got to get in there, give the Ukrainians the support they need," the British minister added.
Situation in the Kharkiv region
This week, Russians attempted to break through the defense of Ukrainian forces in the Kharkiv region. Occupiers entered the area of Vovchansk in the north of the region. According to DeepState, the Russian army could have occupied six populated areas.
Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, confirmed that the situation in the Kharkiv region had escalated. He noted that battles in border areas were ongoing.
At the same time, representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces point out that Russians want to stretch Ukrainian troops along the front lines. In their opinion, there is currently no threat to Kharkiv.
