'He looks bewildered': BBC pundit says Leeds player didn't seem to know his role at all against Norwich

Jon Newsome has suggested that one Leeds United player looked bewildered during the first-leg of the play-off semi-final and did not appear to know what he needed to do for Daniel Farke’s side.

Leeds more than played their part in a very poor first-leg at Carrow Road on Sunday, with the Whites lacking any sort of quality in the crucial areas of the pitch in a performance which reflected how Farke’s men had finished the regular season.

With Patrick Bamford sidelined, Farke opted to leave Joel Piroe on the bench with Georginio Rutter getting the nod to lead the line against the Canaries.

The Frenchman did have a golden chance to get a shot away in the early stages, but completely fluffed his lines when the ball was played across by Willy Gnonto.

Georginio largely struggled to get into the game, mostly getting onto the ball in his own half. And when he did receive possession in and around the final third, he was often unable to keep the ball for long.

It was no surprise that he was one of the first players Farke took off during the second-half. And speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Jon Newsome suggested that Georginio did not look comfortable as he just about managed to clear the ball from a corner.

“It’s a poor corner from Norwich,” he said.

“I know he runs around and he tries his best but this today from Georginio Rutter… he’s got to learn what his role in the team is.

“He looks bewildered as to what he’s got to do.”

Unfortunately, Georginio was not the only one who really struggled against Norwich, with Leeds failing to ask almost any questions of Angus Gunn.

At times, it seemed like Joe Rodon was the player most likely to drive the team up the pitch with a bursting run forward.

Georginio has not been the same player since undergoing surgery during the last international break. And his performance will leave Farke with serious doubts about whether to keep him in the starting lineup on Thursday when the two sides meet again.
