‘We will see’: Guenther Steiner ‘pretty sure’ that 4-time F2 race winner will be a Formula 1 driver in 2025

Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has been talking about the potential of some new drivers joining the Formula 1 grid in 2025.

After a season of stability – or scandal if you’re Eddie Jordan – the grid stayed the same in 2024 as the previous campaign, but that won’t be the case next year.

Speaking on the F1 Explains Podcast, Guenther Steiner made a prediction about one new driver who will be on the grid.

Two drivers have already announced they’ll be driving for new teams next season.

Lewis Hamilton is heading to Ferrari while Nico Hulkenberg will drive for Sauber next year before Audi take over in 2026.

Guenther Steiner believes that there’s a very good chance that Oliver Bearman will end up on the Formula 1 grid in 2025.

The 19-year-old already has F1 experience having starred for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia this year.

He’s set to return to the track in Imola as he takes part in his first FP1 session of the season.

The next few months are going to be essential for several young drivers hoping to break into Formula 1.

Mercedes junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli is testing behind the scenes with a potential move to Williams on the cards.

Alpine could part ways with both of their drivers meaning Victor Martins needs to up his game in Formula 2 after a tough start to the season.

However, Steiner believes that the most likely youngster to find a seat on the grid in 2025 is Oliver Bearman.

The teenager has four Formula 2 wins to his name in his career and was in a great position to add to that tally in Jeddah.

He qualified on pole for PREMA before being promoted onto the F1 grid as Carlos Sainz’s replacement.

His performance for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia was reminiscent of how quickly Liam Lawson adapted to Daniel Ricciardo’s AlphaTauri at Zandvoort last year.

Both drivers will hope that they will be racing against each other in F1 next season.

Talking about potential changes on the grid, Steiner said: “I think we will see new drivers. I’m pretty sure that Oliver Bearman will be in.

“Maybe Kimi Antonelli, I don’t know what Mercedes is planning for him, they need to decide who to put in that seat.

“But I think we will see some new faces next year because this year we had no change at all, not even internally.

“No one left, no one came, everybody stayed put in their teams so, I think next year there will be some changes and some people will unfortunately for them leave and new people will come.

“But, it’s just like that happens all the time in any competitive sport.”

Guenther Steiner’s old team are the most likely team to provide Bearman with a seat on the grid in 2025.

It’s already been suggested that the team will move ‘heaven and earth’ to sign the British teenager.

Williams have been told to consider Bearman as an alternative to Antonelli should they wish to replace Logan Sargeant.

However, the connection between Haas and Ferrari should give Bearman a more straightforward pathway to the grid next year.
