'Gave us the game': Tata Martino names Inter Miami player who changed everything vs Montreal

Tata Martino has named the Inter Miami player who changed everything for the Herons in the 3-2 win against CF Montreal.

The Florida franchise yet again had to come from behind to secure a big victory on the road in Canada, with Inter Miami extending their winning run to five games ahead of Wednesday’s massive derby clash against Orlando City.

Sitting top of the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, Inter Miami again showed last night the lengths they will go to to secure three points, with Lionel Messi having an off night as the Argentine was bullied and targeted by Montreal.

Which is why Inter Miami needed another player to step up to help claim victory.

Matias Rojas praised after match-winning performance vs Montreal

Speaking to MLS’s official website, Martino lauded Matias Rojas for changing the game for Inter Miami, with the 28-year-old attacker scoring an unbelievable free-kick and then assisting Benjamin Cremaschi for the winning goal.

With four goal involvements in his first three Inter Miami games, Rojas is already looking like a gem of a signing, and the Paraguay international was rightly praised for his display last night against Montreal.

Martino said when asked what was the turning point in the match for Inter Miami after going 2-0 down in the first-half: “I think Matias’ goal gave us the game.

“Truthfully, up to that point, we’d created some situations. But there were no signs we’d be able to pull a goal back. He scored a very nice free-kick goal and from then we started playing differently. We went back to what we always do, going back to a 4-4-2 and without a doubt we felt more comfortable.”

Martino is getting the best out of Inter Miami already

With a squad of superstars, it’s easy to suggest that Martino is getting a free ride with Inter Miami, who are making MLS look like a walk in the park with some of their performances this season.

Yet the Argentine manager deserves a lot of credit for getting the best out of Inter Miami, who at this stage of the season already look like a sure-bet for the post-season playoffs and for MLS Cup.

Indeed, Inter Miami know they have pressure to live up to in the coming months, yet Martino is managing the situation perfectly with every player available to him in the squad.
