Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane in agreement over 'lucky' Arsenal incident during Man Utd win

Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane were in agreement over a controversial moment during Arsenal’s win against Manchester United this afternoon.

The Gunners secured one of their biggest wins of the season with a professional 1-0 win against United, with Old Trafford one of Arsenal’s historically worst stadiums in the history of the Premier League.

Whilst Arsenal got the win this afternoon, it could have been a different story entirely had United been awarded a penalty in the first half, a moment that could have swung the game in a different direction had it been awarded.

And Rooney and Keane both had the same opinion on the controversial moment.

Rooney and Keane dismiss Thomas Partey’s penalty incident

Speaking on Sky Sports, the United legends were both in agreement that Thomas Partey’s challenge on Diogo Dalot wasn’t enough to win the Red Devils a penalty, even if the Arsenal midfielder was a bit lucky.

Rooney said about the penalty incident: “I don’t think this is a penalty. Partey is lucky that he goes off his feet early and he just gets a nick on the ball,” with Keane replying: “Partey is on the wrong side. But not a penalty, he’s a lucky boy.”

Given how inconsistent VAR and officiating has been in the Premier League this season, there was every chance that United could have won a penalty on a different day at the hands of Partey.

However, Arsenal and the Ghanaian international got away with one at Old Trafford, and the decision ultimately proved important as the Gunners went on to claim a huge three points in Manchester.

Partey performance vs Manchester United opens up big question for Arsenal

Partey’s performances in the last few games have been relatively good alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, yet the former Atletico Madrid midfielder today was far from his best.

The 30-year-old was sluggish off the ball and struggled to keep up with United’s midfielders, a rather embarrassing feat given the Red Devils were playing with a largely weakened side.

And for Arsenal, Partey’s performance again opens up a big question over the midfielder’s future, with rumours suggesting that the Ghanian international could be sold this summer.
