‘The game is over’: The Esk reveals whether 777 Partners’ Everton takeover is linked to Usmanov

Last week was a crazy one for Everton, but all was well by Saturday’s end, as they had won again.

Securing a fifth straight home win, all without conceding, spirits were high around Goodison Park on a sun-kissed afternoon in Merseyside.

In fact, such was the ease with which they went about their business in this glorious sunshine, for a moment most forgot the turmoil that still lingers off the pitch.

One such unrelenting saga is the takeover, which has now been dealt a fresh update to clarify some of the rumours emerging.

The Esk seeks to clarify 777 Partners funding rumours

The official clarification regarding 777 Partners’ baffling continued funding of their Everton takeover came after Paul Quinn, finance guru and writer, had first issued another damning claim towards the Miami-based firm.

Better known as ‘The Esk’ on X, he has been one of the biggest detractors of this potential suitor since the beginning, and is only now seeing his claims come to fruition.

Some might debate the manner in which he expresses his opinions on administration, but he has been largely right throughout about Josh Wander and his company’s legitemacy.

His first post reads: ‘In order to have any prospect of recovery of their loans 777 find themselves in the ludicrous position of finding funding for Everton. The game is over for 777, this is a desperate measure to try & keep the patient (Everton) alive in the hope of recovering their funding in the future.’

Then, when asked by a fan if their continued ability to pump funds in was propped up by Alisher Usmanov, a former business partner of Farhad Moshiri, he replied: ‘No mate, that’s not the case.’

Everton’s takeover takes another dramatic turn

Although it would have been quite farfetched to assume that Usmanov was the secret benefactor behind 777 Partners, there was some substance behind the rumours.

After all, it was pretty well-documented that he was the main man pumping money in when Moshiri was in his free-spending era at Everton.

He would provide huge injections of cash through seemingly inflated sponsorship deals, and had already provided a monster sum just to assume exclusivity over the new stadium’s naming rights.

So, with Moshiri now seeking to sell up, the theory suggested that Usmanov was funding 777 Partners to ensure that the club stayed afloat and thus he would soon get some kind of return provided they avoid administration.

The Esk’s affirmation has put that theory to bed now anyway.
