Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and First Lady Olena Zelenska pay their first official visit to Serbia, reports Reuters.

According to the newspaper, this is the first visit of high-ranking Ukrainian officials to Serbia since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Zelenska and Kuleba have already toured Belgrade and the medieval fortress of Kalemegdan, accompanied by Serbian First Lady Tamara Vucic.

Zelenska also attended the signing of a cooperation agreement between the universities of Belgrade and Kyiv.

Reuters emphasizes that the visit is a signal that Serbia is moving away from its traditional ally Russia.

Serbia's position on the war in Ukraine

Serbia has an ambiguous position on Russia's war against Ukraine. In particular, the country refuses to provide military aid to Ukrainian defenders.

However, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has repeatedly stated that his country does not recognize the incorporation of the occupied territories of Ukraine into Russia.

Last year, it became known that Russia was recruiting Serbs for the war against Ukraine. After that, Vucic called on Moscow to stop recruiting Serbian citizens into its army.
