David Ornstein says 'one to watch' for Man Utd job is current Premier League top seven manager who Ineos like

Erik ten Hag has lost another game as Manchester United manager and the pressure will continue to increase.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to an in-form Arsenal team at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag‘s side actually giving a good account of themselves.

However, United’s record lately is awful, with only one victory in eight Premier League matches.

The season is totally dependent on winning theFA Cup, but that alone may not be enough to save Erik ten Hag.

Watch Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United

There have been many names linked with the Manchester United job if Erik ten Hag leaves the club or is sacked.

Another has been thrown into the mix, one who is managing a Premier League club now above Manchester United in the table.

Insider David Ornstein told NBC Sports that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino‘s name should be monitored.

Ornstein said: “He (Pochettino) has been heavily linked to this club, Manchester United, in the past.

“He met with Ineos about the Nice job some time ago, so there are some links there.

“Maybe his current style of management is fitting to the current style that Ineos like to exhibit themselves. I am not saying he is in the frame by any means, but it is just one to watch.”

Manchester United were linked to Pochettino in the past but the timing never lined up. He was then snubbed in favour of Erik ten Hag back in 2022.

His Chelsea side are now seventh in the table, three points above Ten Hag’s eighth placed United with two games remaining.

What is Pochettino’s situation at Chelsea

Similar to Manchester United, Chelsea has not been an easy club to manager over the past 12 months.

Chelsea’s form has picked up dramatically over the past few weeks, but questions linger over his own future.

Speaking at the weekend, Pochettino declared he would have no issue walking away.

He toldBBC Sport: “If we are happy, perfect. But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors happy…

“You need to ask us also, because maybe (we) say ‘we are not happy’ and we accept the situation and we need to split.”

Certainly, if that was the case, Pochettino would be a credible contender for the United job in a market where there are few standout managers.

As Ornstein notes, this is one to watch, with United’s form on the slide.
