'We weren't composed' - Mikel Arteta critical of Arsenal's performance in Man Utd win

By Katie Catherall

Mikel Arteta has criticised Arsenal's performance in their narrow win at Manchester United as they continued their chase for the Premier League title.

Arsenal were able to record a 1-0 victory over the Red Devils thanks to an early goal from Leandro Trossard, but ultimately provided an uncharacteristically tetchy performance at Old Trafford.

The result was enough to take them back into top spot above Manchester City, but it left Arteta feeling nervous on the sidelines.

The Gunners boss was happy with the game's outcome, but did point out that his side were far from flawless.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "We needed a result today in a really difficult place. Our history was not in favour of a result today, there was so much at stake and we're happy with the result.

"We started the game really well and were dominant. We scored the goal and I think the goal led to slightly bad things because we started to play too safe, too sideways, too backwards with not enough structure.

"We weren't composed, clean enough, consistent enough and doing the simple things right. That doesn't give you control of the game.

"Some of the players have not been in this position, they don't know what is at stake and how you feel emotionally to have to win and win and win from December or January. It is a phenomenal thing they are doing."

Arsenal's result sees them regain their place at the top of the table ahead of City, who next face Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. The Gunners will play their final game of the season against Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with the Cityzens hosting West Ham United.
