Arsenal just did one thing for the first time since 1998 with 1-0 win over Man Utd

Arsenal did one thing they last managed in 1998 as they secured a 1-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Arsenal kept their Premier League title dream alive and kicking with a hard-fought victory over the Red Devils.

The Gunners were far from their best in the North West, but were able to get the job done through a disciplined and compact defensive effort. After Leandro Trossard put the North London outfit ahead, Mikel Arteta was seen giving detailed instructions to Gabriel Magalhaes. Alongside his centre-back partner William Saliba, the Brazilian played a key role in keeping the hosts at bay.

Arsenal failed to control this match in the manner that they have so frequently this season. Arteta’s side lost the midfield battle. Thomas Partey was singled out for criticism by Arsenal fans who felt that the Ghanaian struggled to cope with the pace of the game.

However, despite the sub-par standard of the overall performance, the Arsenal fans were in the mood to celebrate and mock Manchester United after the final whistle.

Arsenal have now won three consecutive Premier League games against the Red Devils. The North London outfit have not previously enjoyed three consecutive league triumphs over Manchester United since 1998, 26 years ago.

Arsenal record three consecutive Premier League wins against Man Utd

Earlier this season, they beat them 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium, with goals from Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Gabriel Jesus earning the three points on that occasion.

That match came soon after Rice’s arrival at Arsenal from West Ham United. His 96th minute winner put the Gunners ahead in that game and really helped the 25-year-old to announce his arrival at the club. Rice has been said to have “Roy of the Rovers DNA,” and that was the Arsenal fans’ first taste of the heroics that he is capable of.

In January 2023, Arteta led his side to a home win over Manchester United courtesy of a 3-2 scoreline. Again, a late winner went in the Gunners’ favour. On that occasion, Eddie Nketiah was the provider, after he had already grabbed his side’s first, either side of a Bukayo Saka strike from range.

For so long, Manchester United were the dominant force in English football. Now, though, Erik ten Hag’s men are only on track for an eighth-place finish in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, Arsenal will still be in the title race this time around come the final game of the season.
