Alabama Recruiting: 2025 commit breakdown

After finishing with the No. 2 class in the 2024 recruiting cycle, Alabama is looking to keep up its recruiting success under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Thanks to an incredible month of June on the trail, the Crimson Tide now hold 19 commitments in the 2025 class and rank No. 4 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Alabama Class Breakdown

Alabama’s class is led by Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County four-star athlete Darrell Johnson, who committed to the Tide in March. Alabama also holds commitments in the top 100 from Selma (Ala.) Southside four-star athlete Derick Smith and Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star cornerback Chuck McDonald. Alabama flipped Duncanville (Texas) quarterback Keelon Russell, No. 55 overall, in early June.

Recently, the Tide added four-star West Coast offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd, four-star IOL Michael Carroll and in-state four-star IOL Micah DeBose, among others. Their most recent commitment comes from Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt, the No. 91 overall recruit in the 2025 class.

Saraland (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Antonio Coleman flipped from Alabama to Auburn in December before returning his allegiances to Tuscaloosa in early March. Denton (Md.) North Caroline four-star athlete Zymear Smith and Los Angeles Mater Dei four-star linebacker Abduall Sanders joined Johnson, Derick Smith and Coleman in a very busy March for Bama recruiting.

Top Tide Offensive Commit: QB Keelon Russell

Duncanville (Texas) four-star quarterback Keelon Russell flipped his commitment from SMU to Alabama in early June. He is the No. 55 overall prospect in the class and the No. 8 quarterback in the On3 Industry Ranking.

“Keelon Russell is a quarterback that obviously plays at a very high level,” On3 Director of Scouting and rankings Charles Power saidin April. “He’s led Duncanville to two state championships in Texas’ highest classification. With him, it starts with the continued improvement he’s made. He’s younger for the class. He’s one of the youngest quarterbacks in the cycle and he’s gotten better and better every time we’ve seen him. I think the more games he’s played, the better he’s looked. In terms of the skillset you have to start off with his strong arm. T

“angible velocity and is a light-footed functional athlete. In watching his junior film, he made some really impressive high-level throws into some small windows. And he has a well-rounded skillset. A guy who can operate from the pocket but also use his athleticism and is getting better and better. A guy who moved up for us in the last rankings.”

Top Defensive Commit: ATH Darrell Johnson

Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County four-star athlete Darrell Johnson headlines this Alabama recruiting class as the No. 44 overall prospect. Another athlete who is productive on both sides of the ball, Johnson is especially prolific on defense.

“Duke Johnson is a prospect that we’ve been high on for some time at On3,” Power said. “I think he’s a quintessential athlete at the high school level, and projects well. Shows high upside as a versatile defender. Probably ultimately as a linebacker.

“For starters, he has a ton of positive indicators as a prospect. Recently measured in at 6-1, 200 pounds. Has outstanding length at that size. 6-foot-7 wingspan, very long arms. He’s a very good athlete as well. Tests as a strong athlete. Runs electronic times in the 4.6s at the Under Armour camps.”
