Report: Europa League finalist wants summer transfer after missing out on Nottingham Forest move

Nottingham Forest head into the summer transfer window with lingering question marks over the goalkeeping situation – and not for the first time.

Goalkeeping issues have been at the centre of Forest’s transfer windows ever since promotion in 2022.

Brice Samba left the club for Lens despite promotion and Forest have signed goalkeeper after goalkeeper ever since.

Dean Henderson, Wayne Hennessey and Adnan Kanuric came in before Keylor Navas arrived in January 2023.

Forest then signed two goalkeepers last summer as Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos came in to replace loanees Henderson and Navas.

Neither impressed, prompting Forest to go and sign yet another stopper with Matz Sels arriving in January.

Sels has played well so far but with Turner and Vlachodimos potentially available, Forest may still need another option between the sticks.

Nottingham Forest have shown Juan Musso interest

More goalkeeper continue to be linked with Forest for this summer.

Reports suggest that Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bring Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to the City Ground this summer.

Las Palmas stopper Alvaro Valles has also been linked with Forest and there is another name in the mix.

Tuttomercatoweb report that Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso was given a potential opportunity to join Forest.

It seems that Sels was signed instead of Musso with Galatasaray also showing a keen interest before Atalanta demanded €10million (£8.6million).

Sels cost around £3.5million less, with Forest managing to secure the Belgian stopper in a bargain move from Strasbourg.

It’s now added that Musso has decided that he wants to leave and become a starting goalkeeper elsewhere.

Marco Carnesecchi has become Atalanta’s first-choice goalkeeper and Musso has only started 10 Serie A games this season.

Musso has continued to shine in the Europa League, helping Atalanta set up a huge final clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

Forest will seemingly have another chance to sign Musso this summer as he seeks to leave, but whether he would start over Sels is another matter.

Who is Forest target Musso?

Musso came through the ranks with Racing Club in his native Argentina.

The 6ft 3in stopper showed promise there and landed himself a move to Europe in 2018, joining Serie A side Udinese.

Musso became their first-choice stopper, racking up more than 100 appearances before being snapped up by Atalanta in 2021.

Now coming up to three years in Bergamo, the 30-year-old is seemingly ready for a new challenge having made close to 100 appearances.

Musso has picked up two caps for Argentina in the process, but hasn’t earned a cap since 2021.

Regular playing time elsewhere may be the goal for Musso in order to earn more international playing time.

Forest may still have an interest but Sels has surely done enough to start next season as first choice – and that may not appeal to Musso.
