Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar has expressed serious doubts about Romania transferring the Patriot defense system to Ukraine, according to Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
He added that he did not discuss the issue of transferring the Patriot system with President Klaus Iohannis.
"We are three countries with the Patriot system - Poland, Romania, and Germany. We know Germany's position. In our country, according to the Constitution, the supreme commander of the army is President Klaus Iohannis. After the president's visit to the United States, I have not had any negotiations," said Ciolacu.
He added that the Defense Minister of the country "very much does not want to transfer this system, one of the systems that are supposed to be transferred to Ukraine."
According to him, the decision will be made together with the President of Romania.
"I am firmly convinced that we will make the wisest decision regarding Romania, first and foremost, a good one," added Ciolacu.
Patriot system
As part of support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, Germany has announced the transfer of another Patriot air defense system.
In addition to the German system, it is expected that the United States may also provide Ukraine with one Patriot system. This initiative was actively supported by Germany.
Earlier, Ukraine received Patriot system missiles from Spain and other Western allies.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that he is open to discussing the sending of the Patriot system to Ukraine.
