Greg Taylor says key Celtic player was 'unbelievable' in victory over Rangers

Celtic are set for an exciting week as they can inscribe their name on the Scottish Premiership trophy for a third successive season.

Following their 2-1 victory over Rangers last weekend, the Bhoys sit six points clear of Rangers at the summit with a superior goal difference, with Kilmarnock and St Mirren left to play.

If Rangers fail to record three points against Dundee at Ibrox, they could officially be crowned champions tomorrow evening before kicking a ball against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers has had to navigate trials and tribulations at Parkhead; however, his side have come through the other side, performing admirably under pressure against their city rivals last Saturday to set up a photo finish in the Scottish Premiership.

Nevertheless, the Irishman isn’t set on counting his chickens and laid down the gauntlet to his group as they look to complete the job this week.

He stated after his side defeated Rangers: “Living rooms, bars and clubs throughout the world will be absolutely celebrating the victory because that’s what this derby is about. We now have to recover and look to finish the job on Wednesday night.”

Travelling to Ayrshire will also be another return to Rugby Park for Greg Taylor, who has been a constant under Rodgers and is someone who the manager is reportedly keen to keep at the club despite his contract expiring in the summer of 2025.

Greg Taylor extremely impressed with Celtic teammate vs Rangers

Matt O’Riley would’ve received most of the credit for his swashbuckling display against Rangers; however, Taylor has paid tribute to Callum McGregor after the club captain turned in a dominant performance in midfield.

Evading the clutches of Tom Lawrence, Mohamed Diomande and John Lundstram to play an instrumental role in kickstarting Celtic’s offensive moves, Taylor believes he is now back to ‘peak fitness’ following his well-documented Achilles problems.

Taylor stated [The Daily Record]: “He’s a winner, isn’t he? He leads by example and drags other boys with him. He’s just a colossus in the middle of the park. A real leader for us.

“He inspires other people. He makes other people around him better, which is an unbelievable trait to have as well as his individual performance. It’s amazing to have him.

He later added on his injury struggles: “Everyone wanted him back because we know what he can do for us, but I don’t think it’s a case of us running extra hard because Callum is in pain. We’re running hard because we want to win for the team. That’s the main focus, the main objective.”

Callum McGregor showed quality for Celtic last weekend

Quality under pressure is key in any title race, and McGregor was at full tilt for the entirety of his time on the pitch, churning out the hard yards to help his side over the line.

Per Fotmob, the Scotland international took on five shots, created four chances and recorded a pass accuracy rate of 93% (67/72), illustrating his ability to remain composed on any occasion.

Celtic will look to wrap up a third title in quick succession this weekend, and nobody deserves to be standing on the podium more than McGregor.
