Lando Norris sends six-word message to McLaren CEO Zak Brown after watching him drive at the Monaco Historique

While McLaren star Lando Norris might have enjoyed a weekend off racing after his Miami Grand Prix victory, his CEO Zak Brown took to the streets of Monaco to take part in some racing of his own.

Zak Brown had a racing career of his own that spanned two decades before swapping his fireproof overalls for a spot on the pit wall.

However, Brown was given a chance to once again take part in the Monaco Historique event on the streets of Monte Carlo, but Lando Norris couldn’t help but offer some friendly words of advice to his McLaren boss on Instagram.

Lando Norris comments on Zak Brown’s Monaco Historique lap

Brown started racing cars in the early 1990s after several years in karts, moving to Europe to compete in several junior series.

He took part in British Formula 3 in 1994, racing against future F1 drivers Jan Magnussen, Giancarlo Fisichella and Pedro De La Rosa among others.

His career saw him race on both sides of the Atlantic, but his success off the track trumped anything he did on it.

Brown founded Just Marketing International and his success in that area eventually saw him become an executive director of McLaren in 2016.

Since then, he’s become McLaren’s CEO but always has one eye on returning to racing when he can as well as building up his incredible collection of cars that includes Ayrton Senna’s 1991-winning McLaren and one of Mika Hakkinen’s winning cars.

At the Monaco Historique on his occasion, Brown was driving another former F1 champion’s old car and Lando Norris had some advice for his boss.

He can now say he knows a thing or two about winning in a Formula 1 car after his maiden victory in Miami.

Zak Brown drives Alan Jones’s championship-winning Williams

Brown posted a video on Instagram of him driving one of the most iconic cars in Williams’s history and said: “I grew up in California watching the #MonacoGP on TV.

“It seemed a million miles away back then and was just a dream.

“Fast-forward to today, it’s an immense privilege to drive this iconic circuit again, this time in Alan Jones’ 1980 championship-winning Williams FW07B. #GrandPrixMonacoHistorique.”

While Brown may have been enjoying his time in the car, Norris simply replied: “Get your head out the way!”

McLaren taking big strides forward with Zak Brown and Lando Norris

Brown and Norris have both waited a long time to see the Brit stand on the top step of a Formula 1 podium.

It took the 24-year-old 110 attempts but it always felt like it was going to come eventually.

Brown is extremely good at what he does off the track and building up the team from a marketing and reputational standpoint will have a positive impact on the track.

It gives them more money to use to finance upgrades and Andrea Stella’s technical team appear to have once again nailed their latest package.

Red Bull are still the clear favourites to win the championship, but McLaren will fancy their chances of leapfrogging Ferrari.

It will also be interesting to see what Oscar Piastri can do at Imola when it’s expected that he’ll have the same package as Norris did in Miami.
