‘It pains you’: Kenny Miller admits it’s hard for him to praise ‘sensational’ Celtic hero after win vs Rangers

Day two of the aftermath of a Celtic win over Rangers and the pundits and former players of both sides are having their say on the Parkhead result.

As we have said on many occasions now, a point against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night will officially crown Celtic champions and then the celebrations can really begin.

But it was beating Rangers on Saturday that gave Celtic a massive step forward to claiming the third title in a row and it was one that pained former Ibrox striker, Kenny Miller.

Miller’s praise of Matt O’Riley ‘pains’ him

Kenny Miller has been hitting the headlines this weekend after his outrageous comments about John Lundstram’s red card.

It’s not the first time Miller has made some strange Celtic comments in his time as a pundit. And whilst he is going on to praise Matt O’Riley here, he couldn’t help but admit it hurts him to do so.

Miller said [talkSPORT], “He was sensational on Saturday. It pains you to say it, but you have got to enjoy seeing that, a football player like that in our country, in our league.

“He has just grown since he came into the Celtic team. I think it was his 15th league goal this season at the weekend.

“Brendan challenged him to add goals to his game because of his all-round game, his touches, awareness, again, he is so easy on the eye.

“If you add that end product, the goals and the assists, then it can take your game to another level as a midfielder. And he has certainly done that.

“And there is no doubt that he could be one of the players Brendan might need to replace in the summer because no doubt he will have suitors.”

Matt O’Riley’s outstanding Celtic performance vs Rangers

Like Miller, I was also impressed with O’Riley‘s performance in the win over Rangers. The Danish international was superb.

Rated at 8.4 by Fotmob, O’Riley did more than just score a superb goal against our rivals. The 23-year-old also had five shots on goal, created three chances and had seven touches in the opposition’s penalty box.

As well as winning (and missing) the penalty, O’Riley was as the heart of everything Celtic did on Saturday.

With 64 touches, the Celtic hero made 41 passes with an accuracy of 90%. O’Riley also put a shift in defensively as he won 67% of his tackles, made one clearance, four defensive actions and two ball recoveries.

O’Riley also won six out of his seven ground duels as he helped Brendan Rodgers to move ever closer to his third title as the Celtic manager.
