‘Very interested’: Euro 2024 manager has just put himself forward for the Chelsea job – journalist

Journalist Simon Phillips has stated that one manager who will be at Euro 2024 has just put himself forward for the Chelsea job if it becomes available.

It remains to be seen what decision is made over Mauricio Pochettino’s future at this stage, with just two games remaining this season.

Europa League has been the demand of the owners of the manager this season, and this will need a turnaround in order to catch either Newcastle or Tottenham in the final week of the campaign.

Whether that is the case or not, it would beimpossible not to acknowledge the turnaround of form that has led to three impressive wins in a row.

Nevertheless, reports continue to state that there are other candidates being considered for the role for next season, even managers who will not have much of a pre-season due to their participation at Euro 2024.

One of those is Gareth Southgate, who has been out of club football for the best part of 20 years.

Gareth Southgate interested in Chelsea job

Now, Phillips has stated on his Substack that the England manager has actually put himself forward for the role at Stamford Bridge if it becomes available.

He said: “One source, someone who recently worked at Chelsea, believes there is actually a decent chance of Southgate actually going to Chelsea. However, other sources have played this down and at the moment, we have not heard that Southgate is on Chelsea’s contingency shortlist to replace Pochettino this summer, if that is needed to be done.

“I am told though that Southgate has put himself forward for any role that might come up at Chelsea soon. He would be very interested in becoming Chelsea manager, and has very much thrown his name in the hat.”

Roberto De Zerbi on Chelsea’s shortlist

Some other names reportedly remain on the club’s shortlist, with Roberto de Zerbi’s future unknown after his second campaign at Brighton comes to an end.

With jobs potentially cropping up at Bayern Munich and Manchester United amongst others, there will certainly be top bosses in high demand.
