'Has definitely improved': Gary Lineker thinks £65k-a-week Chelsea player has got better

Gary Lineker thinks one Chelsea star has really improved as the season has gone on.

As of late, Chelsea as a whole have got much better, and that is reflected by their position in the Premier League table.

Having spent a lot of time in 10th place, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are now seventh.

They are level on points with Newcastle United in sixth, meaning that they could very well still qualify for the Europa League.

If not, then it will be a spot in the Europa Conference League for Chelsea if they finish in seventh and Manchester United lose the FA Cup final.

Gary Lineker claims Chelsea player has something in him

Last time out, Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 to give their chances of qualifying for the Europa League a boost.

Nicolas Jackson was the man to score the Blues’ winning goal, popping up with a header after the 80th minute.

Gary Lineker thinks he has got better as the season has gone on and believes there is a player there.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the pundit said: “We’ve been looking at him. There’s something in there. He could be a little bit like a [Darwin] Nunez at Liverpool.

“He has got something about him, he looks to get behind players, just needs to improve his finishing slightly. But he is still young and has definitely improved as the season has gone on.”

Is Nicolas Jackson better than Darwin Nunez?

Jackson is having a better season than the Liverpool man, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League, while his rival has managed 11.

Nunez is also two years older than Jackson and in his first Premier League campaign, he only managed nine goals.

It is not far-fetched, then, to claim that Chelsea actually have the better centre-forward in Jackson, who only cost £32m and is currently earning £65,000 a week (Spotrac) at Stamford Bridge.

Nunez, in contrast, cost Liverpool an initial £64m when he joined from Benfica in 2022.
