Baseball: Former Japan, S. Korea WBC stars to play game in July

Japanese and South Korean stars of past World Baseball Classic teams will play a game on July 22 at Es Con Field Hokkaido, the stadium's home team, the Nippon Ham Fighters, said Monday.

The game is scheduled a day before Es Con Field hosts Game 1 of the two-game Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star series. Tatsunori Hara, who skippered Japan to the 2009 WBC championship, will manage the Japanese team.

Koji Uehara, Kyuji Fujikawa and Atsunori Inaba are among those named to play for Japan.

"The excitement of international games will come back if players who etch their names in baseball history can get together from the two countries," Hara said.
