Report: £25m Aston Villa player now an injury doubt for Unai Emery ahead of Liverpool clash tonight

Aston Villa have been handed a worrying injury update ahead of this evening’s crucial clash with Liverpool at Villa Park, with another key player emerging as a doubt.

For the final time this season, Villa Park will host Aston Villa in the Premier League, as Unai Emery’s side look for three crucial points against Liverpool.

Not many would have predicted that on the penultimate matchday of the season, Villa versus Liverpool would represent third against fourth in the league, telling of the accomplishments of Emery’s squad this term.

It’s been a remarkable campaign for the Villans, who will look to end the term on a high following the disappointment of their Europa Conference League exit at the semi-final, losing 6-2 to Olympiacos on aggregate.

A win against Jurgen Klopp’s side could rejuvenate the energy both at Villa Park and in the squad this evening however, Emery may have to navigate the fixture without one of his key players.

Aston Villa handed Leon Bailey doubt ahead of Liverpool clash

It’s been a joyous season for Villa on the pitch, but not one away from the action as a host of players have been absent due to injury.

Against Liverpool, the Villans will likely be without Nicolo Zaniolo and Morgan Rogers, who are doubts for the game, with Youri Tielemans and Alex Moreno hopeful of returning to action.

That being said, a report via The Mirror hinted that Leon Bailey could also be classed as a doubt to feature against Klopp’s side this evening.

Chief Sports Writer Neil Moxley detailed that the strapping on the Jamaican’s knee was heavy against Olympiacos, adding that ‘he is an injury doubt’ for tonight’s clash with Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has been playing with support on his knee for some weeks although, based on his recent displays, there could be added doubt over his fitness ahead of tonight.

Leon Bailey has been struggling for energy recently

Against Brighton, journalist Jacob Tanswell described Bailey as looking both ‘leggy’ and ‘knackered’ as he struggled to impose himself at the Amex.

The Jamaica international has had a searing season in front of goal for Villa and will hope to be a part of the squad until the finish line although, his recent showings suggest there is a significant amount of fatigue surrounding the player.

A rest against Liverpool could be necessary for the winger however, his absence could be detrimental to Villa’s hopes of beating the Merseyside outfit, with his threat irreplaceable in the current squad.

It will be hoped that Bailey is able to feature in some capacity this evening, in what could be the ideal opportunity for the £25m 2021 arrival to add to his stellar tally of 19 goal contributions in the Premier League this season.
