'Special' striker's agent posts photo from Old Trafford as Manchester United reportedly eye £43m move

Manchester United splashed the cash on one striker last summer but head towards the transfer window needing to find another.

United simply had to spend on a striker in 2023 and many would have wanted to see Harry Kane arrive from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane ended up at Bayern Munich instead and rather than focus on a proven goalscorer like the England captain, United went in another direction.

United chose to sign Rasmus Hojlund, a talented but raw striker from Atalanta.

The Dane has shown signs of promise this season but it’s clear that he still needs help.

It’s easy to forget that he was playing for Sturm Graz in Austria just two years ago; he is still finding his feet at United and at the top level.

United must sign another striker to support Hojlund and there are two routes to potentially go down this summer.

United could go for an experienced striker who can come in and make an impact right away whilst giving Hojlund somebody to learn from in the coming years.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is one such option and has been linked with a move to United.

The other option is to sign another top young talent and rotate them with Hojlund for years to come.

That second idea could come into play with United’s continued interest in RB Leipzig hitman Benjamin Sesko.

Reports in April suggested that United are back in for Sesko and a £43million release clause in his contract could pave the way for a transfer.

The Slovenian is in red-hot form right now, scoring in each of his last six appearances for RB Leipzig.

United may look to activate that clause this summer and Sesko’s agent has now sparked frenzy over a potential move.

Elvis Basanovic – the man behind the Pro Transfer agency – has posted a photo from Old Trafford on Instagram.

Basanovic attended United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, making a very interesting appearance amid speculation surrounding a possible move for Sesko.

Maybe Basanovic was just there to see a big game, but his presence will leave some wondering whether Sesko could finally join United after all.

Why Sesko previously snubbed Manchester United

United were keen on signing Sesko during his time with Red Bull Salzburg.

A 2022 move was targeted but Sesko ended up joining RB Leipzig instead, moving within the Red Bull group.

Sesko addressed that decision earlier this season, admitting that the similar playing style at RB Leipzig was a key factor.

“The thing is, I was not really into that kind of conversation,” said Sesko. “But I think, yeah, I think it was better just to come here.”

“It was really important for me to go to a place that was playing a similar style of football. I already knew what to do and didn’t have to go through an entire learning process again,” he added.

Sesko has now had a year with RB Leipzig and his end-of-season form paints the picture of a player really developing his game in Germany.

The 20-year-old is an enormous talent – both in terms of his potential and his physicality at 6ft 5in tall – and he would certainly be an exciting addition for the long term.

Sesko may not be ready to move just yet though and United would have to hope for a case of second time lucky in pursuit of the ‘special’ striker.
