'It has to be': Chelsea youngster names his favourite player in Mauricio Pochettino's first-team squad

Chelsea academy star Tyrique George was recently asked about his favourite player in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Chelsea have not had the best season, but the Blues still have some extremely gifted footballers at the club.

This term, Cole Palmer has obviously been the standout individual, but Nicolas Jackson has also shown a lot of talent, even if he has not been the most clinical forward in front of goal.

The 22-year-old has scored 17 times in 42 outings so has not actually been that bad.

As for Palmer, he has netted on 24 occasions and has been hailed as “one of the best” players in the world by captain Reece James.

In the past, George has idolised Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.

Regarding now, though, the young attacker looks up to Palmer.

When asked about his favourite Chelsea player, George told the club’s official website: “Growing up, probably Hazard, skilful, joy to watch.

“Currently it has to be Cole Palmer, he scores a lot of goals.”

Palmer has scored a lot of goals this season and leads the charts at his club.

Twenty one of his strikes have come in the Premier League, which is really impressive. He has also provided 10 assists in the top flight, showing how effective he has been in attack.

While this season has not been great for Chelsea, who have missed out on Champions League qualification, they could still end up finishing sixth.

That is practically all down to Palmer and if he performs like this again next term in a Chelsea side that have all of their key players available, then they may be able to go a step further than Europa League qualification.

It will be up to the England international to prove that this is no one-off. But the quality has been there for everyone to see this season, so it should not be.
