Call for people to have spring Covid-19 vaccine as two in three are yet to get protected

Have you not had a vaccine yet? Find out if you are eligible for the spring booster.

The NHS is calling on communities to have their spring Covid-19 vaccine, as the latest figures show that roughly two in three eligible people have yet to take up the offer in Cambridgeshire.

The spring Covid-19 vaccine is being offered for free through the NHS to all people aged 75 and over, and those aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system.

Spring Covid-19 vaccine are being given out

The vaccination will help protect those eligible from serious illness.

In Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and Royston there are 116,149 eligible people - but 74,576 have yet to accept their invitation to get the potentially life-saving vaccine.

Cali Makewell, integrated vaccination programme lead with NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, said: “Whilst it may feel like many of our lives have now gone back to normal after the pandemic, Covid-19 is still in circulation, and it can still cause serious illness, hospitalisation, and even death.

“That’s why the NHS is inviting people who are at a higher risk of getting very seriously ill from Covid-19 to have a spring vaccination.

“If you’re invited, please don’t ignore your invitation – take up the offer of this potentially life-saving jab and get protected.”

It is very easy to get the Covid-19 vaccination locally.

People who are invited to get the jab can visit www.thevaccinators.co.uk to find a walk-in near them or book an appointment via www.nhs.uk/book-vaccine.

People who prefer to speak to someone can call 119.

The 119 operators can confirm whether they are eligible, help them book their appointment, or let them know where their nearest walk-in clinic is.
