Tottenham Hotspur reportedly agree to sell homegrown talent this summer

Tottenham Hotspur still have two Premier League games left to play but the summer transfer window is coming in to sharp focus.

Ange Postecoglou avoided five games without a win as Tottenham came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Tottenham now face Manchester City with many fans actually hoping for a defeat in order to damage Arsenal’s title hopes.

That one will divide opinion but Tottenham will then end the campaign at Bramall Lane, visiting already-relegated Sheffield United.

Champions League football is probably out of reach now but Tottenham will have high hopes for next season.

Postecoglou will need to churn the squad a little; he has already admitted that he plans to make real changes this summer.

Tottenham fans can therefore expect plenty of ins and outs this summer and one outgoing deal already appears to be close.

Japhet Tanganga nearing Tottenham Hotspur exit

Tottenham fans have been expecting Japhet Tanganga’s permanent exit for a while now.

Tanganga managed just four Premier League appearances last season and was sent on loan to German side Augsburg.

When that move failed – Tanganga failed to make a single league appearance for Augsburg – Spurs sent him to Millwall.

That move has worked wonders for Tanganga and he has been praised as a ‘Rolls Royce’ for his displays in the Championship.

Tanganga has admitted being excited by the prospect of playing under Postecoglou next season, but he may not actually get that chance.

The Mirror now claim that Tottenham have agreed a deal for Millwall to sign Tanganga on a permanent basis.

The problem for Millwall is that the report claims there could be ‘fierce competition’ for Tanganga after impressing so much on loan.

It’s unclear just how much Tottenham have agreed to sell Tanganga for, but it’s unlikely to be a huge fee.

Tottenham homegrown issue

Whether it’s Millwall or elsewhere, we would expect to see Tanganga leave the club on a permanent basis this summer.

The 25-year-old needs to move on and play regular first-team football rather than playing the loan game again moving into next season.

A versatile defender, Tanganga can be a real asset at his best and Millwall have certainly found that.

Tanganga’s departure would though exacerbate Tottenham’s issues in terms of homegrown numbers for European action.

Spurs need to name players who have been trained at the club and two moved on last summer in Harry Kane and Harry Winks.

Add in that Troy Parrott may be on the move this summer and Tottenham are lacking numbers in terms of club-trained players.

Links to Southampton’s former Tottenham talent Kyle Walker-Peters may only accelerate as a result with Tanganga now seemingly nearing a move away from Spurs.
