‘It’s everyone’s dream’: Sammie Szmodics speaks about his future amid links to Celtic

Away from the madness of Celtic’s win over Rangers, some transfer talk will help break up the day.

Now that Celtic are only one point away from being crowned champions and gaining automatic entry into next season’s Champions League group stages, Brendan Rodgers will need to start planning ahead to prepare for it.

Rodgers bemoaned the transfer business completed last summer and has been urging the club to add quality to the team instead of numbers.

One player who has recently been linked to the club who could add that quality is Blackburn Rovers attacker, Sammie Szmodics. [The Scottish Sun]

Szmodics’ ‘dream’ of playing at the highest level

The Republic of Ireland international has been in excellent form in the English Championship. His 27 goals has helped Rovers beat the drop but has also attracted the attention of Celtic, Fulham and Brentford.

And now, the 28-year-old has spoken out about his immediate future and shared what his ‘dream’ move would be.

Szmodics said [No Tippy Tappy Football], “Obviously I’d love to stay at Blackburn because you want to be the main man and this season I’ve taken that role and I’ve loved it.

“But like I said, there’s nothing right now but if there’s a Premier League team that’s gonna really give you a shot I think, you know, it’s my dream growing up.

“It’s everyone’s dream growing up to play at the highest level and I’ve played in the National League and I have played League One, League Two and now the championship.

“I would be stupid, and I know Blackburn fans, obviously, want me to stay and I’d love to stay but if there’s an opportunity to go and play in the Premier League.”

There’s no doubt that if Celtic were to try and sign a player of Szmodics’ calibre from England, it’s not going to come cheap.

Some the money that is paid for players in the second-tier of English football can be out of our reach. And that’s before we even speak about paying their salary.

But it seems that Szmodics already has a clear idea where he wants to play his football in the future and, unfortunately, Celtic doesn’t seem to be in his plans.
