Report: European giants haven't contacted Pochettino about taking over, there's a major stumbling block

Despite some reports, it does not look like Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will be joining AC Milan.

Mauricio Pochettino was recently linked with a move to AC Milan.

The Argentine is about to enter the second and final year of his contract at Chelsea and will have his season reviewed once the campaign concludes.

It does not look like Pochettino is getting too much support right now, so it is not impossible that he is dismissed.

However, a switch to Milan seems like an unlikely scenario.

AC Milan are not trying to appoint Mauricio Pochettino

According to Calciomercato.it, Milan have not contacted Pochettino about replacing Stefano Pioli at the San Siro.

Even if they wanted to hire the 52-year-old, there would be a problem, the same outlet claims.

Their report states that Pochettino’s €15m-a-year salary, which is £12.9m, would prevent an appointment from happening.

There is, of course, still the possibility of the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager remaining at Stamford Bridge, too.

Who could Mauricio Pochettino join if he does leave Chelsea?

While Milan may be out of the picture, one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals could be a potential destination for Pochettino.

According to journalist David Ornstein, if Pochettino is dismissed, the Blues boss to Manchester United is one to watch because of talks he has had in the past with INEOS over the Nice job.

Chelsea are not where they want to be right now under Pochettino, missing out on the top four. But with the team moving up to seventh and level on points with Newcastle United in sixth, there has been progress, especially compared to last season.

Sacking Pochettino now and watching him join Manchester United would be so counterproductive. It is something that Todd Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea hierarchy really need to avoid, especially if Pochettino does end up getting the team back into Europe.
