The tragic death of 15-year-old Ella Adler has left a community in mourning as they grapple with the devastating loss of a young life brimming with potential and promise.
"A juvenile female was water skiing and fell off the water ski, and at some point a vessel struck her causing her to die due to her injuries," said Florida Fish and Wildlife officer George Reynaud.
Ella, a gifted ballerina and dedicated student, was struck and killed by a boat while water skiing off the coast of Key Biscayne, Florida, on Saturday, in a heartbreaking incident that has rocked her family, friends, and the broader Miami community.
Ella Adler was a force of nature, radiating an infectious energy and joy that captivated all who knew her. In her 15 short years, she had already accomplished more than many do in a lifetime, excelling academically, shining on the stage as a ballerina, and leaving an indelible mark on those around her.
The news of Ella's tragic death has reverberated throughout the Miami community, leaving a profound impact on all who knew her. Her school, Ransom Everglades, expressed their profound grief, describing Ella as a student who "shined in our classrooms and on our stages" and embodied the school's mission.
The Miami City Ballet, where Ella had performed, also shared their devastation, remembering her as an "integral part of our family" and a "magnificent dancer" whose "kindness, warmth, and infectious joy were known to all."

"Our officers are looking for the vessel that struck her; it was last seen heading westbound from Nixon Beach. It is described as a center console boat with a light blue hull. The boat has multiple white outboard motors and may have blue or dark blue bottom paint," said FWC.
The FWC asks anyone who witnessed the accident or anyone who may have video footage or information to call the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922) or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
There is a reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
