‘He’s Celtic’s best player’: Chris Sutton in no doubt who’s Rodgers’ top player after win over Rangers

Celtic’s win at the weekend was down to Brendan Rodgers’ best players stepping up at a time when the Parkhead boss really needed them to.

Now six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rodgers is on the brink of taking Celtic to their third title in a row and turning around a narrative that has surrounded the club over the past few months.

But that narrative was partly rubbished as Celtic’s best players returned from injury. Key players like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate have been out for much of the season and their return to the team has been a great boost for Brendan Rodgers.

However, Celtic also had players out of form and Chris Sutton has said that the performance of one of them has left him in no doubt that he is Rodgers’ best player.

Sutton hails Celtic hero, Matt O’Riley

Speaking after the win over Rangers at the weekend, the former Celtic hero praised O’Riley after a Hoops fan admitted he is likely to move on in the summer.

Sutton said [BBC 606], “Athletico Madrid were in for him in the winter window.

“But the whole thing is if you sell Matt O’Riley, you’re talking about getting better quality in how do you replace him?

“He’s Celtic’s best player.”

I don’t think you will find anyone disagreeing with that. O’Riley’s performance against Hearts was simply outstanding.

Against Rangers on Saturday, O’Riley ran the midfield after he scored the crucial opener, won a penalty and even helped out the team defensively as he helped guide Rodgers’ side to within one point of winning the league.

I think many Celtic fans are expecting O’Riley to leave this summer and if he does, he will go with our blessings because what he has produced at Celtic Park over the last three seasons has been nothing short of brilliant.
