Ipswich Town star picks Leeds United player as toughest opponent he faced this season

Ipswich Town star Sam Morsy has picked a Leeds United player as the toughest opponent he has faced this season despite The Tractor Boys coming out on top over The Whites.

Ipswich’s ability to keep plugging away and winningChampionship matches was too much for Leeds as the pressure got ahold of Daniel Farke’s side, forcing them into four defeats in the last six league games.

That dismal end to the season cost Leeds in the race to finish in second place behind Leicester City. But, Leeds could of course still join Ipswich if they are able to do the business at Elland Road on Thursday.

Leeds’ 0-0 draw at Ipswich’s rivals Norwich on Sunday hands them a slender advantage going into the second leg later this week, with The Whites now boasting home advantage for a place at Wembley.

Ipswich’s Morsy responded to a question from a fan before the game, asked who his toughest opponent to face throughout the 2023-24 season was and he responded by naming one crucial Leeds player.

Morsy picks Crysencio Summerville as toughest opponent

It will probably come as no surprise that the Egypt international chose Summerville as the hardest he faced, given Summerville won the Championship’s Player of the Season trophy for Leeds this season.

A huge 30 goals and assists has given Leeds a chance of an instant return to the Premier League but has also attracted the interest of plenty of big clubs, with Tottenham and Newcastle eyeing a £38m move.

Summerville has dipped in form towards the end of the campaign and was unable to do much last time out but if Leeds are to book their place at Wembley and win promotion, you imagine he will have his say.

Can Leeds keep Summerville at Elland Road this summer?

It all depends on that word beginning with P. If Leeds can get themselves promotion at the end of such a tumultuous season then it would be a massive achievement, one that would tempt Summerville to stay.

But even then, the Dutch winger has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa. Stephen Warnock, a former Leeds captain, thinks a move to Unai Emery’s Villa side would be hard to turn down.

All will be revealed in the next few weeks and months but right now, Summerville will be focused on helping Leeds gain promotion and should he do that, Leeds will stand a good chance of keeping him.
