Four Man City stars up for Best Men's Player award, but 'world-class' £55m star misses out

Four Manchester City players have been named on the shortlist for an individual award today, but there was no place for Kevin De Bruyne.

It has been a great season for City, as they seek to deliver two more trophies, having already won the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in 2023.

Pep Guardiola‘s side have been in wonderful form lately, and fans are really hoping that history will be made on Sunday. If City seal the title, it’ll be the fourth in a row, something that has never been done before.

City’s status as a dominant force could not be possible without such quality players.

Everywhere you look in the City team there is talent.

Today, four players in the squad have been named on the shortlist for the 2024 Best Men’s Player at the KAFD Globe Soccer Awards…

Today, the KAFD Globe Soccer Awards have released their nominees for the Best Men’s Player award.

City have four players nominated, and they’re Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Rodri.

It is no surprise to see Foden there, with the England international having recently scooped the FWA Player of the Season award. The ‘generational’ 23-year-old is also up for the Premier League Player of the Season and also Young Player.

Haaland – who won Best Men’s Player last year – has scored a bucket load of goals once again and was also going to make the shortlist.

Rodri’s importance to Manchester City is crystal clear, and he is full deserving of his place on the list, having not lost a game in 90 minutes in what seems like an eternity now.

And it’s great to see Bernardo Silva included, given he does not usually come in for the same level of recognition as his teammates.

There is sadly no inclusion for Kevin De Bruyne though. The Belgian has had an injury-hit season and has only been able to make 23 appearances this term. He has still managed six goals and a remarkable 17 assists though across all competitions.

The winner of the award will be announced on May 28, with the ceremony taking place in Sardinia, Italy.

All four are deserving

It is brilliant to see this quartet being acknowledged for their brilliance and they all deserve their inclusions on the list.

It is a shame £55 million maestro De Bruyne – described as ‘world-class’ by Luton Town player Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu recently – didn’t make it on. Clearly, the serious hamstring injury he sustained has had an impact, because when he has taken to the pitch, he’s still really shone.

We will see which way the vote goes. At the moment, fans are voting for their final shortlist

At the moment, from the official Globe Soccer Awards website, it appears Mo Salah is bringing in most of the votes. The process then takes into account votes from a jury comprising football professionals such as journalists, agents, coaches, and ex-players.
