‘If I'm being totally honest’: Jake Clarke-Salter speaks after being linked to Celtic

Celtic’s need in the transfer window has never been so apparent as it has been this season.

A raft of injuries to key first-team players not only exposed Celtic’s squad depth weaknesses but also highlighted the lack of quality brought in during last summer’s transfer window.

And now that the league title race is almost at its end, the Celtic boss will be looking forward to planning for next season and getting the quality players he believes will help take us forward in Europe.

Celtic target ‘looking forward to the future’

We discussed last month how Jake Clarke-Salter was wanted by Celtic. Rodgers was said to be up against the likes of Wolves, Burnley and Crystal Palace for the central defender’s signature. [The Sun]

And as the season draws to a close, the Queens Park Rangers defender has now opened up on where he sees his immediate future.

Clarke-Salter said [Football League World], “If I’m being totally honest with myself, I had a lot of ambition growing up at Chelsea – captaining Chelsea and England youth sides – and I had some injuries along the way that has hindered my career so to have a home now.

“To be able to stay fit this season, which I always knew would come around again.

“I’m confident now that I can put those injuries behind me and I’m just happy now at QPR.

“I have a home, I had a good season in the end and I’m just looking forward to the future.”

As ever, with players from England, there seems to be a premium price to be paid. However, we spoke last week about how Celtic learned that it would take between £5m-£7m to land the 26-year-old defender.

In today’s money, that’s not a bad price especially when you look at what Celtic have historically shelled out on the likes of Christopher Julien and Maik Nawrocki.
