According to BBC pundit Clinton Morrison, Liverpool’s ‘great’ midfielder deserves more chances next season after what he did vs Aston Villa.
It wasn’t the greatest performance by Liverpool this season, let alone in the entire category of Jurgen Klopp’s nine games at the club.
However, the game against Aston Villa was an exhilarating encounter on Monday night. A game which definitely had every Liverpool fan on the edge of their seats.
It was end to end action, with both Liverpool and Aston Villa going full throttle. There were plenty of goals to celebrate and plenty of VAR drama and reviews as well.
Most notably, there was a really impressive performance by one of Liverpool’s best players since the turn of the year.
Clinton Morrison on what Harvey Elliott deserves next season
Right in front of Gareth Southgate, who was in attendance at Villa Park on Monday night, Harvey Elliott definitely showed what he was capable of.
He was involved in the first Liverpool goal forcing an own goal from Emiliano Martinez with his cross within the first two minutes of the game.
He also delivered the decisive assist to Jarell Quansah from a very well delivered free-kick for Liverpool’s third goal of the game.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live, Clinton Morrison was very impressed by Elliott’s performance and revealed that he thinks the midfielder deserves more opportunities at the club next season.
“He’s better in that midfield role,” Morrison said.
“He picks passes, he has got great delivery on the set pieces and he has a bright, young future. He will want more opportunities. The new manager should give him more opportunities, I do like him.”
Morrison is right, Elliott works really well in that midfield role. He’s also been brilliant since the turn of the year and definitely deserves more time on the pitch.
It’s a proof of his talent that since February 10th no Liverpool player has more goal contributions than Elliott (12) for the Reds in all competitions.
