Nemanja Vidic names two Arsenal players who have really impressed him this season

Nemanja Vidic has named two Arsenal players who have really impressed the Premier League legend this season.

The Gunners have enjoyed their best campaign in the English top-flight since the Invincibles, with Arsenal recently claiming against Manchester United a club-record tally of Premier League wins and goals scored in a single season.

With Arsenal also registering the most clean sheets out of any team this season in the Premier League, the Gunners have reached a whole new level under Mikel Arteta, with the title race set to go to the last game of the campaign this Sunday.

And United legend Vidic has been impressed with two Arsenal players in particular.

Vidic shares fondness for Arsenal stars Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba

Speaking to the Times, the former Serbian centre-back revealed his admiration for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, who this season have been the best defensive partnership in the Premier League.

Vidic said when asked which defenders in the Premier League have caught his eye: “I like talking about the young ones. Micky van de Ven. He’s fast, strong and good in the air, and has capabilities to really improve.

“The two from Arsenal [Saliba and Gabriel] are doing well. Watching them, I feel they like defending and want the clean sheet. I like the mentality they show. And they are a partnership.

“That is important. Arsenal, this season, have not been conceding many goals and the situation when they went to City and didn’t concede — that was a statement of Arsenal as a team. That they want to win the trophy. Not just play nice. I think that’s good. Finally!”

Arsenal would not be where they are this season without Gabriel and Saliba

Arsenal have enjoyed one of their best Premier League seasons ever this term, a feat that could be made even more remarkable if they can pip Manchester City to the title this weekend.

Yet the Gunners would not be where they are in the league without Gabriel and Saliba, who this season have been a revelation at the back after an extra year of experience playing alongside one another.

Indeed, the two defenders are still young and are yet to reach their full potential, and Gabriel and Saliba can dominate at the back for Arsenal for many years to come.
