The road remains taped off this morning, with police on the scene.

The incident happened at about 10pm, prompting a major response by the emergency services.

Neighbours say up to 12 police cars and several ambulances were in attendance, with the air ambulance landing in nearby Whatman Park.

There are no details yet of the extent of any injuries.

The road is on a busy school run route to Maplesden Noakes and Maidstone Girls Grammar Schools, which remains closed this morning.

As a result, there are serious hold-ups throughout the town centre, as motorists seek alternative routes.
