Rio Ferdinand names 'amazing' Chelsea player in his Team of the Season as well as Cole Palmer

Rio Ferdinand has named Cole Palmer and one other Chelsea player in his Team of the Season.

Cole Palmer‘s inclusion is no surprise, as the attacker has arguably been the best footballer in the Premier League this term.

In the 31 top-flight appearances he has made for Chelsea, Palmer has scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists.

Three players from rivals Fulham now think that the Englishman should be crowned Premier League Player of the Season.

But one of his teammates also seems to have impressed Ferdinand.

Rio Ferdinand names two Chelsea players in Team of the Season

Speaking to FootballJOE, Ferdinand said he would put Palmer in his Team of the Season.

As well as the 22-year-old, there was also room for Malo Gusto at right-back.

Choosing his team, the United legend said: “I will go back four because most teams play it. Do you know who I am going to go with this year? Ben White has been good at Arsenal, obviously. I am going to go with Gusto at Chelsea.

“I think just for a young kid, how old is he, 20, the way he came out of nowhere and adjusted to the league immediately.

“I think Ben White’s a close second, but I am going to go for him, Gusto, because I think they haven’t missed Reece James this season in that role, no wonder I haven’t seen a lot of people talking about Reece James’ absence, and that tells you he must be playing well.”

Malo Gusto has been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League

Ferdinand has made some good points. Gusto is still just 20 and this is his first season in England. Even so, the Frenchman has managed to perform in the current Premier League campaign.

He has recorded five assists, which is pretty good for a full-back. Gusto is also making 1.2 key passes per game, which is more than Enzo Fernandez, according to WhoScored.

The France international got Palmer’s vote for the Chelsea Players’ Player of the Season award, with his teammate stating that he has been “amazing” this term.

Reece James is back from injury now and reminded everyone of what he is capable of with an assist last time out. It means Chelsea could have two really good right-back options next season if their captain can remain fit.
