'Definitely: £29m Wolves star admits he's had his best-ever season at Molineux since arriving in 2020

Nelson Semedo was named the Players’ Player of the Season at Wolves on Saturday and after receiving his award, he made an honest admission.

The 30-year-old was voted as the best player this term by his peers, with Mario Lemina scooping the Supporters’ award. Pablo Sarabia won Goal of the Season.

Sadly Wolves couldn’t win their final home game of the campaign against Crystal Palace, as they lost 3-1.

But there was an opportunity at the end for the fans to show their appreciation for the players as individual awards were given out.

Semedo was practically ever-present for Wolves this term, and made an admission about his season after receiving his award…

This season, Semedo has been one the most used players for Gary O’Neil.

As per Transfermarkt data, he played a whopping 3455 minutes, putting him second in the table out of the whole squad. Only captain Max Kilman was on the pitch for longer in 2023/24, with 3891 minutes played.

It underlines how highly manager Gary O’Neil rates Semedo.

From the off, he took a liking to the Portugal international, and he has stuck with him all the way. And Semedo certainly warranted all the minutes he was afforded.

The £29 million star was much more consistent in 2023/24, and really improved his defending.

He only scored one goal and made one assist, which is a bit disappointing considering how high he likes to push up the pitch. But Semedo was definitely one of Wolves’ strongest performers throughout the campaign.

And in his eyes, it has been his best campaign since joining the club.

He said (via Wolves official): “Definitely. Definitely. I think it was my best season here. I was good physically, I felt confident. The coach helped me a lot as well. The fans, the team everybody helped. It was the best season I had here.”

Semedo is correct

Semedo is not wrong when he says he’s just had his best season since joining the club.

While his form has dipped a little towards the end of the campaign (that is the case for a lot of his teammates too), he has been really solid overall.

Max Kilman said earlier this year that Semedo is ‘top quality every week’ and at the time that was a pretty fair assessment. No one was getting past him, and he was a constant outlet on that right side.

Without doubt, he has looked the best under O’Neil compared to under previous managers and we will now see what happens with him in the summer.

He has been linked with a potential exit, as he is entering the final year of his contract. We know O’Neil loves him and will want to keep him. But if a high enough offer comes in, then Fosun might just be willing to sanction a deal.
