Team announce coach has told them he's quitting, he's set to join Liverpool with Arne Slot this summer

Liverpool have just one game remaining before Arne Slot takes over as manager.

Although we’re still waiting on the official announcement, it has been known for several weeks now that Slot has been the man chosen to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

With both Liverpool and Feyenoord set to play their final fixtures of the campaign on Sunday, surely there’ll be confirmation before then.

Part of that announcement will likely be to announce the first members of Slot’s coaching team at Liverpool, too. There have been claims that the Dutchman will take as many as three coaches with him from Feyenoord.

Now, a different press briefing appears to have confirmed one who will be moving to Anfield.

Sipke Hulshoff set to leave Netherlands post

As any new manager would want to do, Slot is set to appoint his own people in key positions at Liverpool.

Just like the 45-year-old, the backroom team have a tough act to follow. Pep Lijnders in particular has been crucial to the Reds’ success under Klopp and will be sorely missed.

But amid fresh claims that Lijnders will take the RB Leipzig manager’s job upon leaving Liverpool, it has become clearer who will replace him.

Slot has already been claimed to be readying Sipke Hulshoff to join him as his No.2 at Anfield. As someone already familiar with a clutch of Liverpool players, it has been suggested that Hulshoff could be something of a secret weapon for Slot.

The reason the 49-year-old knows some of the Reds first-team squad is that he currently moonlights as Ronald Koeman’s assistant with the Netherlands national team.

However, according to a statement put out online by the KNVB, Hulshoff has informed the Dutch FA that he will no longer be part of Koeman’s team. Dwight Lodeweges is said to be the man to replace him, with the change coming in with immediate effect.

What does this mean for Liverpool

It had already seemed fairly certain that Hulshoff will be the man joining Slot at Anfield. But this near-enough confirms it.

What it does mean is that the assistant will be in place immediately alongside the new manager.

Had he stayed with national team, Hulshoff would obviously have been involved in this summer’s European Championship.

With that no longer his concern, the coach can now focus solely on getting set up at Liverpool and filling Lijnders’ shoes.

Of course, nothing is yet official. But it seems to now be merely a matter of time.
