Celebrity pathologist who argued more than one shooter killed JFK dies

Celebrity pathologist and attorney Dr. Cyril Wecht, also known for his beliefs on the JFK assassination, has been announced dead.

The assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963, remains one of the most shocking and widely analyzed moments in American history. The 46-year-old politician was fatally shot by former marine Lee Harvey Oswald, and the footage that emerged from the killing left global audiences lost for words. In the decades since, on the other hand, many public figures have spoken out about theories surrounding the murder. One such person to argue the compelling possibility of more than one shooter responsible was celebrity pathologist Cyril Wecht, who has now sadly passed away.

Forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht, who has been conducting a personal investigation for ten years into the assassination of President John F. Kenned…

JFK assassination theorist and pathologist Cyril Wecht has died

Dr. Cyril Wecht earned a reputation in part due to his involvement in the detailed analysis of the JFK assassination. However, it has been announced that he passed away on Monday, May 13th 2024, at the age of 93. No cause of death was disclosed.

It was during his days as an assistant district attorney in Allegheny County and a pathologist in Pittsburgh that he began his involvement in the study of John F. Kennedy’s death. He was commissioned to review the Warren Commission’s report, which was conducted to investigate the murder, and found that Oswald was the sole orchestrator.

While this was the verdict reached by the report, Cyril strongly believed that he wasn’t the only one involved. The Gazette reports he argued a single bullet being responsible for penetrating both Kennedy and hitting Texas governor John Connally was “absolute nonsense.”

Although the theory was slammed by others and earned no end of critique, his involvement and conclusions raised his profile. As a result, he was chosen as the pathologist for a string of celebrities, including the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.

His theory may have attracted counter-arguments, but his work also earned admiration from others, including attorney Alan Dershowitz.

Tributes are being paid – ‘I’ll miss those hard debates’

Since the news of his tragic passing, a range of people have done their best to pay respects to both the man and his work.

“RIP Dr. Cyril Wecht, a great forensic pathologist,” author Gerald Posner tweeted, sharing a clip of a debate they had on CNN.

“We could not disagree more about the JFK assassination, but I liked him and respected his work. Even though, as on this 1993 CNN, I would tell him he was totally wrong. And he would say I was ‘absurd.’ I’ll miss those hard debates.”

TV host, lawyer, and journalist Julie Grant called him “the best… What an honor knowing Dr. Cyril Wecht. The brilliant doctor, lawyer, and professor is world-renowned for his medicolegal contributions in academia and the courtroom. Undoubtedly, one of the brightest minds of our time whose legacy will live on!”

Those thrilled to have met him have also taken to sharing their photos and stories. “Rest in peace to famed forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht,” one began. “It was an honor to hear his perspective of the famous cases he worked on. I learned so much about investigative crime and our corrupted system from him. I aspire to ruffle as many feathers as he did in my field of work.”

Many are clearly glad to have had the chance to hear him impart wisdom. “We were incredibly honored to interview the brave and witty Dr. Wecht,” another penned on X/Twitter, “and send our condolences to his loved ones.”
