EU extends advisory mission to Ukraine

The European Council has extended the mandate of the EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) until May 31, 2027, according to the EU Council.

The mission provides strategic consultations and practical support for specific reform measures in accordance with EU standards and international principles of good governance and human rights, particularly in support of Ukraine's commitments to EU accession.

EUAM advises, trains, and supports relevant Ukrainian partners, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine.

EUAM in Ukraine has field offices in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa, as well as a mobile unit. Field offices in Kharkiv and Mariupol are currently not operational.

The EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine began its work on December 1, 2014.

Prior to this, the European Union approved the concept of the EU Advisory Mission to support the reform of the civilian security sector in Ukraine.

It was reported at the time that the EU mission would provide advice and monitor the development of the strategy for reforming Ukraine's civilian security sector. In particular, the mission's activities will address issues such as respect for human rights, combating corruption, and gender equality.
