'Bodies scattered around him': Ex-Trump official amazed people will still work for him

Former Trump White House official Sarah Matthews said on CNN Tuesday that it she was amazed at how many people still want to work for former President Donald Trump.

While discussing the aggressive lobbying being made by Republican vice presidential hopefuls, Matthews tried to remind them of the grim fates that had befallen many of her former colleagues who worked at the Trump White House.

"Loyalty is a one-way street with Donald Trump," she said. "He demands loyalty from everyone but he gives it, essentially, to no one. And it is kind of funny to me that there are so many people who are lining up who want to be his VP or to work for him because look at the bodies scattered around him: Multiple people indicted and caught up in these different trials."

An incomplete list of current or past Trump associates who have been convicted of crimes related to their association with the former president includes former attorney Michael Cohen, longtime Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates, former White House political strategist Steve Bannon, former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro, and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

And this doesn't include the even greater number of Trump associates who have been indicted and are awaiting trial for their roles in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

And as if that weren't enough, Matthews also reminded CNN viewers of Trump's treatment of his first vice president.

"His own vice president had a mob come after him and chant things like, 'Hang Mike Pence,'" she said. "I can't imagine anyone wanting to sign up to be Donald Trump's VP."
