Erik ten Hag says vitally important Man Utd star will return to squad vs Newcastle

Ahead of Wednesday’s penultimate Premier League game of the season, Manchester United have been handed a fitness boost.

This season has been one absolutely plagued by injury for Manchester United with over 60 separate cases of injuries which has affected the squad as a whole.

For Erik ten Hag, it’ll have been a tough pill to swallow considering how bad the season has gone, as he pleads his case of injuries being the deciding factor.

But on a positive note, it seems as though as we approach the end of the season, things are moving toward being more positive with some long-term absentees returning.

Now, Ten Hag has revealed one is set to return to the squad vs Newcastle this Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag reveals Lisandro Martinez should be in the squad vs Newcastle

Last week, Ten Hag had revealed Lisandro Martinez was back training and even asked to play against Arsenal.

This came too soon though, but this Wednesday could be when the player Rio Ferdinand thinks is ‘massive’ for United, makes his return.

Now the manager has explained via club media Martinez is expected to be in the squad at least at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

“Very good question. Licha Martinez, I think he will return to the squad. He has now [had] some sessions with us and we plan for him to be available.

“This afternoon, [if] everything goes right in the training, he will return in the squad.”

Updates on other Manchester United players

Martinez isn’t the only player that people are keen to see a return to action over the next two weeks as we look forward to the FA Cup final.

“For some other players, we have to see. Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Willy Kambwala, if they are fit enough.”

Another player who he touched upon was Raphael Varane who has just confirmed he’ll be leaving United this summer.

Currently not fit, Ten Hag has revealed there is a hope for Varane to be fit to feature before the end of the season.

“We plan [for] him,” admitted the boss. “Definitely for the last games. Not tomorrow but we hope for Sunday and then, of course, for the last game [the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City].”
