New West Ham star Earthy reminds Cascarino of English football great

New West Ham star George Earthy reminds former player turned pundit Tony Cascarino of one of English football’s greats.

It has been quite the few weeks for rising West Ham star George Earthy.

Indeed it has been quite the season for the boyhood Hammers fan.

Talented young academy midfield star Earthy has shone bright throughout West Ham’s academy sides.

He made his West Ham first team debut in the 5-0 Europa League win over Freiburg.

After that game West Ham and Brazil playmaker Lucas Paqueta made special mention of the 19-year-old on social media.

‘What a player’ Paqueta commented alongside a picture of Earthy coming on.

Then came Earthy’s Premier League bow against Fulham at the London Stadium.

Hearts were in mouths just moments after he came on when his league debut was cruelly cut short as he was knocked unconscious.

Thankfully after recovering in hospital and a spell out due to concussion protocols, Earthy was back on that pitch in his beloved claret and blue against Luton.

With West Ham having edged 2-1 ahead in David Moyes’ farewell, Earthy showed great movement and composure to slot home a third, nearly taking the roof off the stadium.

Hammers fans love nothing more than seeing one of their own starring for the first team.

Earthy has been basking in praise since his goal.

Now a very complimentary comparison has been made about the young Hammer.

By George, there’s shades of Sheringham

Speaking on talkSPORT, former striker Cascarino delivered high praise by likening Earthy to former Hammer – and himself a boyhood West Ham fan like Earthy – Teddy Sheringham.

“I want to mention this goal because this reminds me of my pal that I played with, Teddy Sheringham, and the goal. Getting across defenders,” Cascarino said.

“Earthy gets across Mendy for a goal that is a striker’s poacher’s goal, and I love seeing these types of goals. Because that’s telling me he will get goals in his career, that type of movement to go that last chance, get across the defender, and it’s a little flick and it’s in the back of the net.

“It’s all about the timing of the run. You can see just because of his movement George Earthy will get goals. Teddy used to do that a lot in games.”

Wow. If Earthy goes on to have half the career Sheringham achieved, West Ham have some player on their hands.

Hammers look to have a serious talent on their hands

And unlike Sheringham, Earthy won’t have to take the scenic route via bitter rivals Millwall and Spurs to get to his boyhood club West Ham.

Cascarino is not the only one making bold claims about Earthy after his big West Ham breakthrough.

Paqueta has taken it to a new level by making a big prediction about his young teammate.

His departing manager Moyes has also given replacement Julen Lopetegui a heads up by labelling Earthy a ‘special player’.

“He’s been special for a long time,” Moyes said.

“He’s a terrific football player he really is.”
