‘Possibility’: Tottenham may sign ‘world class’ player, they’re one of the only teams in for him – journalist

Tottenham need to sign a new striker this summer.

The north London club still haven’t properly replaced Harry Kane after selling the England captain last summer, and a new number nine is needed.

Interestingly, Tottenham could now replace Kane with one of his England understudies.

Indeed, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has stated that Tottenham could be in for Ivan Toney this summer, claiming that there’s a possibility that Toney ends up at Spurs as there aren’t many other clubs who are now in for him.

Tottenham one of the only teams in for Ivan Toney

Jones spoke about the ‘world class’ striker and his links to Tottenham.

“They’re one of the clubs in for Ivan Toney and there’s a possibility that happens because there’s barely anyone else interested in Ivan Toney anymore,” Jones said.

“Would Brentford actually sell for £45m? I don’t think they want to, but Ivan Toney wants to leave Brentford and I’m not sure what you get for keeping him at the club.”

Ivan Toney could be a bargain

At one point, it looked as though Ivan Toney would cost an absolute fortune.

The England international was touted as a £100m player at one point, but, as Jones says, the interest in Toney has waned, and now, a £45m move could potentially be enough to land the striker.

At that sort of fee, you’d be getting a bargain of a striker. Toney has proven at Brentford that he has what it takes to score 20 goals a season in the Premier League, and that’s what Tottenham need right now.

A striker of this quality doesn’t come onto the market very often, and Spurs would be wise to firm up their interest in Toney this summer, especially as there isn’t as much competition at the moment.
