Here’s why Biden isn’t panicking over polls that put Trump ahead

Joe Biden isn’t sweating it.

At least, that’s what he and some of his top advisers think of new polling that came out Monday and showed Donald Trump ahead of him in five of six states crucial swing states, according to a new report from Axios.

Simply put, Biden and those in his inner circle don’t believe the numbers, per the report.

“The dismissiveness of the poor polling is sincere, not public spin, according to Democrats who have spoken privately with the president and his team,” according to the report. “In public and private, Biden has been telling anyone who will listen that he’s gaining ground — and is probably up — on Donald Trump in their rematch from 2020.”

According to the The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Siena College from April 28 to May 9, 2024 poll: Nevada Trump +13, Trump 51% and Biden 38%; Georgia Trump +9, Trump 50% and Biden 41%; Arizona Trump +6, Trump 49% and Biden 43%; Pennsylvania Trump +3, Trump 48% and Biden 45%; Wisconsin Trump +1, Trump 47% to Bideb 46%; and Michigan Biden +1, Biden 47% and Trump 46%.

Biden won all those states in 2020.

The poll showed discontent over the economy and the war in Gaza among young, Black and Hispanic voters is what threatens Biden’s coalition.

Biden pollster Jeff Pollock told The New Republic’s Greg Sargent in a podcast released Tuesday they’re confident many of those people who have fallen off from supporting Biden will ultimately come back around.

The Biden campaign has enough money to reach those voters they’ve lost, Pollock argued. Trump, meanwhile, isn’t expanding his base and is too busy with court battles and legal fees to mount a similar effort.

“All the data consistently shows our campaign needs to do better with younger voters, with black voters, with Hispanic voters,” Pollock said.
