An explosion rocked Kharkiv this afternoon. An air raid alert has been declared in the city and region, according to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov.
The air alert was announced more than an hour and a half ago. The mayor said that it was loud in Kharkiv for the second time in a day.
"We are investigating whether it is a hit in the city or the suburbs. Be careful," Terekhov added.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of guided aerial bombs in the Kharkiv region.
Where Russian troops hit
Terekhov said that the Russians hit a residential area, with apartment buildings around. Information about the destruction and victims is being clarified.
Syniehubov said that there is a possibility of repeated attacks on the city. The head of the region also added that the Russians struck the central part of the city.
Hit on a high-rise building
Terekhov said that a residential high-rise in the city center was hit.
Russia is shelling Kharkiv
The regional center has been actively shelled by Russian troops in recent months. The city's geographical location makes it difficult to quickly shoot down enemy missiles, and Ukraine lacks air defense systems.
The latest shelling of Kharkiv occurred this morning. The head of the region reported that the Russian military fired two guided aerial bombs at the city. The attack destroyed garages and injured people.
