Brendan Rodgers makes a very promising pledge about Celtic's summer transfer window

Brendan Rodgers dropped some intriguing insight into Celtic’s potential summer window plans in his press conference before his side travel to Kilmarnock tomorrow evening.

Last week, Rodgers led his men to a victory over Rangers that has put them on the cusp of Scottish Premiership title glory, which could be confirmed tonight at the earliest if Philippe Clement’s outfit fail to take maximum points against Dundee.

Failing that, Celtic need just a point against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park to see themselves crowned league champions, albeit they have suffered defeat in Ayrshire twice this term.

Much of the earlier part of the campaign was dominated by Rodgers’ demands for improved ‘quality’ to bolster his squad and help them progress in the way he envisages at Parkhead.

Now, he has shed some light on Celtic’s recruitment plans once the market opens for business in an exciting update that supporters will be salivating over.

Brendan Rodgers says plans to boost Celtic squad ‘well underway’

When asked how far along his plans are to continue boosting Celtic’s squad growth and improvement, Rodgers gave a telling answer in his pre-match media conference.

He stated [Celtic TV]: “We have to, that’s pretty clear, but I’m really excited about moving forward into a really bright future with the club.

This season has been a real challenge, the squad, (is) openly, not as strong as what I would’ve liked it to have been, but what the players have given me until this point has been absolutely brilliant.

“Our job going forward next year is to be stronger, much stronger, but that’s something that is well underway.”

Many managers give robotic answers in front of the media, but what is quite revealing here is Rodgers’ admission that he isn’t satisfied with the group he has on paper, putting across a relentless determination to build on what it looks like will be a fruitful first campaign back in Glasgow’s east end for him.

The Irishman also values the endeavour his core has given him; however, you get the impression that he isn’t going to be resting on his laurels in his mission to build a sustainable dynasty for the long-term at Parkhead, both domestically and in Europe.

Rangers will also refresh their squad in the summer to try and pip Celtic to the title, meaning there is no room for complacency from himself, his backroom staff or the hierarchy.

Either way, it is refreshing to see that Rodgers already has clear designs on plans to take the club to new heights this summer.
