Theo Walcott predicts whether Tottenham's players are actually going to try tonight vs Man City

A result for Tottenham Hotspur tonight against Manchester City would essentially hand their north London rivals Arsenal the title.

Ange Postecoglou’s side find themselves in a bizarre situation while they bid to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.

Tottenham will face Manchester City at home this evening as both sides look to capitalise on their game in hand.

A City victory would see Pep Guardiola’s men leapfrog Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table. Anything less would mean Mikel Arteta’s men have their destiny in their own hands on the final day of the season.

Spurs also have something to play for after their top-four hopes received a slight boost last night as Aston Villa dropped points at home to Liverpool.

Gary Neville has already slammed suggestions that Spurs could turn up and ‘let Man City win the league’.

Now, former Arsenal star Theo Walcott has delivered his verdict on tonight’s clash between Spurs and City.

Walcott on Tottenham vs Man City

Speaking on The Monday Night Club, Walcott suggested that while a Spurs win could lead to supporters booing their own players, he feels Postecoglou’s side will be keen to pick up all three points, regardless of the impact it could have on the title race.

He said: “It’s like in any sense of life or work or business, you are always competing against that guy or company and you’re like why are you going to sit back and just let someone take your opportunity right now? Some players at Tottenham are maybe looking for moves and this is a period of time when managers like to look at a bit more of a squad as well.

“You want to be the best and compete against the best. The Tottenham players, yeah, they might get a few boos if they win the game but they want to compete for the Champions League.”

Postecoglou’s comments on Tottenham vs Man City

A large section of Tottenham fans on social media seem to be of the opinion that they would prefer to see their side lose tonight.

Postecoglou certainly isn’t of that opinion, as expected, and the Aussie boss claimed just yesterday that he cannot understand fans who want Spurs to lose.

“I was part of one of the biggest rivalries in the world in the last couple of years with Celtic and Rangers, and I understand the rivalry, but I’ve never and will never understand if someone wants their own team to lose,” he said. “That’s not what sport is about. It’s not what I love about the game.

“What I love more than anything in the game is the competitiveness, challenging yourself to beat someone and coming out successful. Anything outside of that, it’s got nothing to do with sport. It’s got nothing to do with me.”

It looks set to be an interesting game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening but unsurprisingly, you can expect maximum effort from Postecoglou’s side.
