Real Madrid think they could make a ‘brilliant’ signing from Liverpool this summer

Liverpool have just one game remaining before eyes begin to focus on the summer transfer market.

There had obviously been hope that the Reds would be playing beyond May the 19th this season. But, alas, it was not to be.

As a result, once Liverpool have waved goodbye to Jurgen Klopp on Sunday, the only business left to do will be in terms of incomings and outgoings.

With Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes in place, the Reds’ transfer window is expected to be an interesting one. A new centre-back as well as an additional forward are reportedly on the agenda.

But it won’t only be those coming into the club where the intrigue will lay. As journalist Matteo Moretto reports, there could be a very significant player leaving Liverpool as well.

Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer ‘on the table’

Given the way the season has ended, there perhaps aren’t too many first-team players Liverpool fans would be loathe to losing.

Alisson Becker is definitely one, which is why new reports of fresh interest from Saudi Arabia are especially concerning.

Another is Trent Alexander-Arnold. Although he’s had a frustrating time with injury this season, Trent has once again shown his class of late. As Michael Owen said recently, the 25-year-old is a truly ‘unique’ player.

Simply put, Liverpool can’t afford to lose him. But with one year left on his contract, there is a real danger of that happening. Now reporting for The Daily Briefing, Spanish reporter Moretto says there is real interest in Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid.

“The Trent Alexander-Arnold link continues to be on the table,” says the journalist, in regards to Madrid’s plans at right full-back.

“Because if he doesn’t renew with Liverpool, then he will be a brilliant market opportunity, so they will wait and see how that plays out.”

What’s the latest on Alexander-Arnold’s contract

This whole saga really only hinges on one factor: will Alexander-Arnold sign a new deal with Liverpool.

If the Scouser puts pent to paper at Anfield beyond 2025, then there’s surely no way that even Madrid would be bold enough to have a go.

But as Alan Shearer has proclaimed, Liverpool have let themselves get into a ‘dangerous’ situation with Trent. They cannot let the academy graduate leave these summer.

Thankfully, all signs point towards Alexander-Arnold staying at his boyhood club for the long-term. But until things move along, alarm will remain.

From a Madrid point of view, you can understand why they’d be interested in Trent’s situation. Let’s hope Liverpool nip it in the bud before anything serious transpires.
