'Full of confidence': Alan Shearer left so impressed by £200k-a-week Man City star in 4-0 win v Fulham

Alan Shearer believes one Manchester City player in particular looked full of confidence against Fulham on Saturday.

City took all three points with another convincing performance, beating the Cottagers 4-0 down in London.

Pep Guardiola‘s side briefly went top of the Premier League table, before Arsenal defeated Manchester United on Sunday. But City can go top again with a win over Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

The game in hand is finally upon us, and it is simply a huge game. Victory will put City two points clear of Arsenal going into the final day.

Someone who is likely to start tonight is Josko Gvardiol, who continued his stunning form at the weekend against Fulham – and the Croatian left a big impression on Premier League legend Alan Shearer…

Gvardiol has started to see quite a lot of minutes in the final stages of the season.

The 22-year-old had been used in rotation with the likes of Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji, but just lately he has locked down the left-back spot, starting the last eight Premier League games in a row.

Gvardiol also played every single minute of the two legs against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Undoubtedly, Pep Guardiola has started to trust him a lot more recently, and he has definitely warranted the increased involvement.

Gvardiol now has five goals to his name for City, with two of those coming against Fulham.

His performance was appreciated by Alan Shearer, who included the player in his latest Premier League Team of the Week. He said (via premierleague.com): “The Croat secured a brace against Fulham showing his confidence on full display as City look to secure a fourth successive title.”

Gvardiol is finishing the season very well

It was another really good outing for Gvardiol on Saturday against Fulham and Pep must be delighted with how he is performing at the moment.

Gvardiol started OK this season but then had a bit of a dip around Christmas time. But over the last couple of months, something has really clicked with him, just as City-mad singer Noel Gallagher said this week.

He looks much more at home on that left side now compared to when he first signed for the club. And the £200,000-a-week man is only going to get better.

Who knows if he’ll stay out wide. We know that he is naturally a central defender.

But it’s great to see that he can now play the position to a high standard, and Pep will surely have no qualms playing him there if he needs to next season.
